Welcome to Mrs. DePasse's Class!
News for April 5th, 2024
We had another good week at school! The spring weather is really bringing the sunshine and spring fever! As one student said yesterday as we were outside, "There's just sunshine all over the place!"
Solar Eclipse: On Monday, April 8th, we will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse here at BFA! We are excited for students to view this celestial event. All students, teachers and aids will be supplied eclipse glasses for the event. Parents must sign the Google Form in order for your child to see the eclipse: Google Form. If students don't have permission by Monday they will be staying inside. We will communicate solar eclipse safety with students and the need to not look directly at the sun unless wearing the school supplied solar eclipse glasses. I would also appreciate it if you also discussed this as a family. We had fun making a model today to show how an eclipse happens.
ABC Countdown: Our ABC Countdown until the end of the year starts on Thursday, the 18th with A is for Art Day! On that day, students will be invited to bring art materials to class where they will be given some time to share their materials and make some fun art. Ideas include fun papers, bought projects, and stickers. Feel free to see what you have laying around and send it in. (Just no paint or glitter, please.) Go to this LINK to check out all of the planned special days and activities, some of which involve dress-up themes. We will have lots of fun!
Domain Update: We are continuing to learn about farms. Many of the students' wildflower seeds that we planted last week are starting to sprout! We talked about how we sometimes eat the "tops" of plants that grow above the ground and sometimes we eat the "bottoms" of plants that are a part of the roots. Yesterday, we read The Little Red Hen. Today, we read about Pueblo Chiles, which is also a part of the 2024 Colorado Literacy Project. We also tasted Pueblo chiles and Hatch chiles! So many of them tried them and had so much fun! The students had a blast with this! The students also made a poster for the Pueblo Chile Poster Contest! Scanned posters were sent in by email and their originals are in their folders today.
Math Update: We are continuing to analyze solid and flat shapes. We have also been continuing to review time, money, and place value several times each week.
Reading Skills Update: Thank you for taking the time to have your child read the passages that have been coming home in the red folders. I have loved handing out lots of tickets to all my readers! We will be leaving Unit 9 and moving onto Unit 10 next week, but we will continue to revisit the skills and reader from this unit. Students are doing such a great job reading AR books, learning their sight words, and completing online lessons.
Upcoming Dates:
Monday, April 8th: Solar Eclipse/Permission Form Required
Thursday, April 18th: ABC COUNTDOWN begins for kindergarten!
Friday, April 19th: Day Break With Dads
Friday, April 26th: Teacher Planning Day/No School
Thursday, May 9th: Zoo Trip- Parents may join, but there isn't a signup yet
Thursday, May 21st: Field Day
Let me know if you have any questions!
