Kindies Rock!!!
Welcome to Mrs. C. McGinty's Class***Please see main kindergarten page for important information.
Week of April 28-May 2nd ABC Countdown continues this week with these letters:
It is almost time for the final field trip of the year! We will be going to the zoo on Thursday, May 9th. I have 4 volunteers to be chaperones. three will ride the bus with us, and one will meet us at the zoo to chaperone a group. However, as many parents as needed can come meet us at the zoo and join a group. Please let me know if you plan on coming to meet us there. That way we can all connect when we get there. “Extra” parents need to pay their own way in. Our zoo chaperones are: Shelly Jonasen (Ryker’s mom)- meeting us at the zoo Kyla Orrico (Lilly’s mom) - riding the bus Melissa Chik (Averie’s mom) - riding the bus Alex Clark (Andi’s mom) - riding the bus **Chaperones should not bring siblings to the zoo, in order to keep their focus on the students they are chaperoning. Please register for this trip on MySchoolBucks. There is no cost for students, but they must be registered in order to go with us. As usual, kids must wear their formal uniform on the field trip and they must bring a completely disposable sack lunch and water bottle. Field Day: Elementary Field Day is Tuesday, May 21st. Our theme this year is The Olympics. Your students will learn a little bit about the history of specific sports or traditions and then participate in adapted events. I will need 3-4 parent volunteers for field day to take the class from station to station. Please let me know if that is something you would like to do. Here is the schedule for the day. Monday afternoon, I will bring a clipboard with your schedule, a map of the stations, and a bag of bandaids to give to the classroom. The whole class will stay together for field day. Volunteers should come to the classroom 10 minutes before our 1st event begins so they can be on time for their first event. In the past, some parent volunteers have brought a backpack or large bag to help carry water bottles in. This may be helpful to you as well. A zone will be blocked off for lunch. The lunch crew will be serving pizza out front. Our class can eat on the grass or the sidewalk. When it is their scheduled time, they can get Kona Ice and eat it outside, weather permitting. Volunteers may stay to help with lunch, if possible. It would be very helpful! Our lunch time is slotted as 11:00-11:30. Please remind your kindies to wear sunscreen, bring a water bottle, and wear their field day/fun run t-shirt (the red one), appropriate shorts, and athletic shoes. Again, let me know if you want to be one of the 3-4 volunteers corralling our classroom! CKLA Skills We are continuing our last unit of CKLA this week. The big new concept in Unit 10 is the magic/bossy e that makes vowels say their name. I have introduced this concept to them, and they seemed to get it really quick. Please continue to study the sight words. We just added they and their to our list of words. It really helps the kids read more fluently! We are reviewing them at school, but that isn’t enough practice for all of the kids. I’d rather you do that and have your student read the stories than complete any worksheets I send home. Sight words students have learned so far: a, all, and, are, big, down, from, funny, is, little, look, of, one, out, two, the, three, was, when, word, where, so, no, why, what, he, she, we, be, me, they and their. Tricky words coming up: my, by, you, and your Social Emotional Learning- Mr. Redford discussed steps to solving problems that arise with playing with toys together. He gave different scenarios for the kids to help come up with solutions. Say the Problem Think of a Solution Explore Consequences Pick a Solution We also learned about the 3 Fair Ways to Play with each other: 1. Share 2. Trade 3. Take Turns Upcoming Dates & Special Days
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteer Opportunities: Science Lab Volunteer: SHere is the link for Science lab volunteering. (Our science lab time if 2:45-3:15 every other Wednesday & Thursday.) We really do need parents in there every time, if possible. You can take your little one(s) home and beat carpool right afterwards! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4AA8A62FABF5C52-kinder1 recess volunteer: In order to get you some volunteer hours and help with order on the playground, we have made this sign up to help with some recesses. During Art days, you can stay and help in Art. You don’t have to sign up to help in Art, and Mrs. Hinkle sorely needs the help! On other days you can help by leading the kindies to specials. There may be some clerical items the teachers need as well, so please feel free to ask! Here is the signup to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F044EAAAD2EA1FE3-kindie3 If you have questions about HelpCounter or logging hours, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jeanelle Korhonen. ([email protected]) Library Volunteer: If you’re interested in volunteering in the Library, please see this link for detailed instructions and to sign up! Other opportunities for volunteering are on my website page. Let's have another great day at BFA! |
CKLA We are still working in Unit 8 for Reading. We will cover the tricky words funny, all, from, and was in this unit. We will also be reviewing rhyming words again during several lessons and testing on them once again. Later in the unit we will be studying double consonant sounds such as /ll/, /ss/, and /ff/. I introduced the double consonants when I introduced these consonants in the first few units, so I’m hoping the concept won’t be too confusing for them now. Here are some extra words that your kindie would benefit from learning at home: unit_7_fry’s_instant_words.pdf MATH We are now on Topic 10 for math which is all about composing and decomposing teen numbers. (breaking them into groups) Please continue to review these and practice addition and subtraction fluency with your student at home. Please emphasize to your student’s about the need to be careful when completing their math work. They should count twice. That’s what I tell them and give them time to do. However, if they miscount, I will take them aside to try again. DOMAIN This week, we are still working through Domain 8: Seasons & Weather. This unit will include learning about the 4 seasons, the clothing needed for each season, how to read a thermometer, weather safety, and meteorology. We also learn the saying “April showers bring May flowers” (about spring). Here are the terms and concepts your kids will be tested on at the end of the domain: 1.Seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn (or fall) 2.Weather: the temperature for the day and whether it is sunny, rainy, or cloudy 3.Blizzards: Do blizzards usually happen in the winter, a snow storm 4.Freezing Point: the temperature at which water freezes 5.Frigid: extra cold weather 6.Sunscreen: We usually use sunscreen lotion in the summer or on a even on a sunny day of any season. 7.Floods: Floods occur when it rains really, really hard and the rivers cannot hold any more water 8.Thermometer: An instrument to measure the temperature. When we want to know the temperature outside, we check the thermometer |
