UNIFORM POLICY REMINDER:
At our last staff meeting, Mrs. Simpson reminded us of some of the uniform policies that we should be enforcing. Because of the tumultuous nature of the past few years, uniform enforcement has been put on the back burner, but we are trying to make sure we are giving it due attention now. Here are a few things to keep in mind as your kindie is getting dressed:

Because of the tumultuous nature of the past few years, uniform enforcement has been put on the back burner, but we are trying to make sure we are giving it due attention now. Here are a few things to keep in mind as your kindie is getting dressed:
- Socks- except for Fun Sock Fridays, socks should be a solid color that matches their uniform (black, white, navy, red, tan)
- Leggings- leggings should also be solid black, white, navy, red, or tan
- Hair Accessories- hair accessories should match uniform (black, white, tan, red, navy)
- Shoes- shoes should be close toed and close healed. They should not light up or have wheels.
- Jackets- If jackets or sweaters are worn inside, they must be BFA/uniform compliant

CKLA Language Arts CKLA Skills (Reading) We are working on rhyming and blending sounds and parts of words together. Students are starting to read words like mom, dad, cog, cat, dog, dot, and mat. **Spending some extra time on Lexia and i-Ready will only help your child with his/her reading skills.**. Sight words - one, two, three, the, and, a, blue, yellow These are the words we have covered so far. Try practicing in the car. Then move some cards to weird places in the house, like on the ceiling, in the fridge, or under the toilet lid. Surprise the kids by moving them and asking them to go find “the”, etc. Handy Links:

Reading Homework
Lexia Please make sure your child is getting
40 minutes of Lexia each week as this will really help give your child some individualized reinforcement of new concepts. It's a research-proven program.
|
Students may also complete additional minutes on i-Ready math if they are able.

Read Aloud HomeworkResearch shows the importance of reading with children. Please read with your child for 15 minutes each night. (And it's a wonderful way to bond with your child!) |
Virtues: Ways to be Kind : )
Temperance – Control is the key to improvement. Keep your words, actions, and temper in control.
Silence – There is a time and place to speak up and a time to listen. You learn more by listening than speaking.
Order – All things have their place. Keep your work area in order; keep your day in order.
Resolution – Keep your word. When you have a task, get it done. Turn in your homework on time and be prepared.
Frugality – Be frugal. Do not waste the school’s resources. Respect what you have been given. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Industry – Keep on task. There is a time for work and a time for play – do both with a good attitude.
Sincerity – Be kind. Say kind words and treat others as you want to be treated. Encourage each other to succeed.
Justice – Be respectful. Give everyone a chance to work or play. Give others a chance to express themselves. Share.
Remember that others are counting on you, so live up to your duty.
Moderation – Keep yourself in balance. Focus both on accomplishing things in which you excel and those you do not. Try new things.
Cleanliness – Keep yourself and your work area clean. Keep your uniform clean. Keep your school clean. Keep your words clean.
Tranquility – Keep yourself from reacting poorly to others. People are not perfect and the world is not fair.
Learn to deal with both despite imperfections. Be patient.
Purity – Be pure in thought and deed. White lies, a little gossip, and small, mean words are painful and say more about you than about others. What you think about others is how you will treat them. Develop good thoughts and feelings toward all.
Humility – Be mindful of others before yourself. Treat them as you want to be treated. Think about how you can help others before being asked.
Let others speak when it is their turn.
Important Info for Kindergarten
Morning Drop Off
You will drop your child off in carpool before school anytime between 7:45-8:10. If they arrive prior to 8:00 they will go directly to the gym where there are teachers to supervise them until it is time to go to their classroom at 8:00. Between 8:00-8:10 they will go directly to their classroom. The tardy bell rings at 8:15.
Red Homework Folders
Kindergarteners will take home a red folder each day. You will find worksheets for practice at home. Please go through it and have your child return any completed worksheets the next day where they will be checked. Any papers in the "Keep at Home" side should be taken out of the folder.
Birthday Celebrations
You may send treats for the class (Full Day enough for 16 students, 1/2 Day, enough for 14 students). We asked for prepackaged, nut-free treats. Please do not pass out invitations at school unless ALL of the children in a class are invited- OR- all of the boys or all of the girls are invited. We need to avoid students being left out and having to dry tears.
Headphones, NOT Earbuds
Please send in a pair of reliable headphones for your child to use while at school. We don't want them to have to share these this year.
What school supplies does my child need?
You don't need to buy school supplies, except for a sturdy pair of headphones. We want to make sure that each child has a pair that is theirs alone. They will need to stay at school for the year.
What are the best snacks to send?
Dry, easy to eat snacks are best! Protein is great! Please pack snacks separate from the child's lunch. If a student in your child's classroom has a severe nut allergy, please do not pack a snack containing nuts.
Will snacks be provided if my child doesn't have one?
Daily snacks are NOT provided by the school and are optional. Please send two snacks apart from their lunch every day.
Should my child bring a jacket?
Our classroom temperatures can vary a lot. Having a BFA uniform fleece or sweater is often comforting inside the classroom. Regular coats may only be worn out doors. BFA sweaters and fleeces may be worn inside or out.
Should my child bring a water bottle?
Absolutely! Please send leak-proof water bottles (recyclables also welcome). Your child may bring home for washing daily or weekly.
*Reminder: Carpool begins at 3:20. Please be in line no later than 3:35. Thank you!
